Our dogs are pets first, show dogs second. Showing is a hobby, which is something Andrew and I can do together. As he is a professional groomer, he prepares the boys and I have the pleasure of showing them in the ring. Showing enables us to travel the country and meet lots of lovely people and of course lots of wonderful dogs. We take great pride in our boys and whatever happens at a show, we always take the best dog home at the end of the day.

Alberto has never been shown. When we got him it wasn’t something we thought about. We began going to shows, just to see what it was all about and decided when we got our second dog we would have a go at showing.

Paolo had a limited show career. His last show was at Crufts 2010. It was an extremely emotional day, as we knew that Crufts would be his last show before he retired. He was awarded Very High Commended, from a large entry in the class. We were so very proud; I must admit I did have a little cry!

Paolo to be honest hated showing and like us could be temperamental at times. Sometimes he was very good, other times he was very naughty, doing everything that he shouldn’t in the ring!
Not all dogs are show dogs and you have to be honest with yourself and most importantly your dog. It wasn’t a natural past time for Paolo and the most important thing for us was that he was a happy dog. We love him so very much because of who he is.

Showing is not everything.
We have learnt as we have gone along. Trial and error as they say. Seek out your local ring craft class, enter open shows, watch and learn.

Most importantly have fun and enjoy!
